Both DC and Maryland have a Chevy Chase neighborhood. These affluent neighborhoods border each other. Most agree Western Avenue is the divide between Chevy Chase DC and Chevy Chase MD.

Although the Chevy Chase DC neighborhood does not have its own metro station, there are three red line stations nearby. These include the Tenleytown-AU, Van Ness-UDC, and Friendship Heights stations. Additionally, several bus lines go through Chevy Chase DC, and it’s an easy commute via car to downtown DC.

Chevy Chase DC has both public and private schools. These include two public elementary schools, Lafayette and Murch. Both schools have an “A” rating on Niche.com for academics and teachers, and both schools have also scored highly in English and math on the STAR framework. There is also Alice Deal Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School. Furthermore, Chevy Chase DC includes Blessed Sacrament School, a private elementary school, and St. John’s College High School, another private school. You’ll also find several Montessori options like Montessori School of Chevy Chase and Broad Branch Children’s House.

Chevy Chase DC is an affluent neighborhood, and home prices reflect that. According to Zillow, the median home value is $1,144,188. This very competitive housing market of historical homes. As far as condos, these vary quite a bit. You’ll find condos in the $300K+ range as well as the million-dollar+ range.

The retail in Chevy Chase DC is unique. There are many “Mom & Pop shops” and locally owned businesses. The main shopping area is Connecticut Avenue Retail Strip. It has many restaurants, cafes, and retail shops. There is also the Chevy Chase Pavilion Shopping Mall in Friendship Heights, Mazza Gallerie and walkable shopping, dining, and greenery. Unique places include Politics & Prose bookstore, Magruder’s’ Grocery, and Avalon Theatre, a historical 1920s theater that’s both luxurious and historical. There is an abundance of entertainment, shopping and more available. Chevy Chase DC is also very close to other neighborhoods with additional high-end shopping outlets.

The Chevy Chase DC neighborhood is a “small town within the city” and features friendly neighbors, architectural diversity, mature oak-tree lined streets, numerous indoor and outdoor activities, and more. It borders Rock Creek Park, an enormous nature sanctuary with hiking, biking, golfing, equestrian activities, sports, nature, places to picnic, and more. Families with small children will also love the green parks, playgrounds, library and recreation centers around town. Residents love Chevy Chase DC’s small-town feel with an easy commute into the heart of DC. The neighborhood is quiet and family friendly. With just over 20,000 residents, tons of activities, shopping and dining, historical homes over 100 years old, it’s no surprise the community is so popular.
